Infinite Square Well

Imagine a particle of mass m confined between two walls at x = ±a. The potential energy of the particle is zero in the box and infinite at the walls. Because the potential is infinite at the walls the wavefunction can not penetrate. Like a guitar string the wavefunction is rigidly pinned down at the ends and can only have wavelengths that are fractions of 2a. The first two solutions supperimposed on their eigen values are given at the top.
