Ritter enters his third season as head coach of the Panthers. The 1982 Middlebury College graduate had been serving as an assistant coach for the six seasons before taking over for 28-year head coach Mickey Heinecken.

Ritter began his coaching career immediately following his graduation from Middlebury. In the fall of '82, he joined the Middlebury coaching staff as a football, women's ice hockey and men's lacrosse coach. He spent six years as the defensive coordinator in football under Heinecken, headed the women's ice hockey program for four seasons, and was an assistant men's lacrosse coach.

Following his six years at Middlebury, Ritter left the College to take a head men's lacrosse and assistant football coaching position at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Ritter worked as both the offensive and defensive coordinator throughout his seven years with the Tufts football program. As head coach of the Jumbos men's lacrosse team for seven years, Ritter won 39 games, ranking him third all-time in wins at Tufts.

Following the spring of '95, Ritter returned to his alma mater to take on duties as an assistant football and men's lacrosse coach. For his first six seasons, Ritter worked as the offensive coordinator for the Panthers. The team compiled a 27-21 record over the six-year span, including a 13-3 mark over two seasons with a share of the '00 NESCAC Championship. Ritter has also worked as an assistant men's lacrosse coach for the three-time NCAA Champions.

He and his wife Sue reside in Middlebury with their two daughters Katie and Chrissy and their son Bobby.
