MIDDLEBURY FALLS TO TRINITY

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -Trinity improved to 6-0 on the season as they picked up a 16-0 win over Middlebury (2-4). The Bantams improved on their nation's-best scoring defense, which was allowing 3.2 points/game entering today's contest. Trinity outgained Middlebury 361-216 on the day, while allowing the Panthers in their territory only once during the second half.

Trinity scored on its first possession of the game as Kevin Swiniarski capped off a 14-play, 69-yard drive with a 25-yard field goal. The drive eclipsed 6:01 on the game clock, giving the Bantams a 3-0 lead with 7:12 left in the first quarter.

Middlebury drove 69 yards on its next drive, giving them a first and goal from the Trinity two after a big 45-yard completion from Mike Keenan to Mike Murray. A Matt Wolf two-yard touchdown run was called back after a holding penalty, while another holding penalty left the Panthers with a first and goal from the 22. Three plays later, a bad snap led to a missed 21-yard field goal from Andy Bohlin.

Midway through the second quarter, Trinity quarterback Erik Paisley was shaken up on a play after completing five of nine passes for 76 yards. Josh Pitcher came on in relief after opening the season as the starter prior to an injury.

Middlebury had another chance to get on the board late in the first half after a Phil Reiff interception gave them the ball on the Trinity 28. A low 31-yard field goal attempt from Bohlin was blocked by Tim Mullaney ending the half.

Trinity scored on its opening possession of the second half on a two-yard touchdown run from Tom Pierandri. The six-play, 64-yard drive was highlighted by a 43-yard pass from Pitcher to Patrick Straub.

A Trinity drive late in the third quarter and another early in the fourth quarter were ended by interceptions by Middlebury linebacker Richard Decembrele. The second pick ended a 14-play drive that took 6:28 off the clock.

Trinity added another score late in the game as Aaron Goldstein returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left to play.

Pitcher was six of 14 for 81 yards with three interceptions in relief of Paisely. Pierandri ended the game with 146 yards on 37 carries, while Bradley Soules caught four passes for 64 yards on the afternoon. Greg Tanner had nine tackles for the Trinity defense, while Michael Blair had four, three for lost yardage.

Keenan went 16 for 35 on the day for 142 yards with two interceptions, while Eric Shanley gained 35 yards on 13 carries on the ground. Decembrele had a big game defensively with 14 tackles, two picks, two pass break-ups and a sack.
