Schwarz
enters his third year as head
coach of the men's tennis program
at Middlebury. After leading the
team to national ranking of 12th
and an impressive presence in the
NESCAC Tournament, Schwarz was
named the 2002 NESCAC Coach of
the Year. Later in the spring, he
then led the team to the NCAA
Tournament as well as
accompanying three individuals to
nationals.
Schwarz
comes to Middlebury from Cornell,
where he was the assistant men's
tennis coach and Director of the
Reis Tennis Center on campus.
Following his final season at
Cornell, Schwarz was named the
Division I Northeast Region
Assistant Coach of the Year.
Prior to that, he served as an
assistant coach for both the
men's and women's tennis programs
at Cornell for two
seasons.
Schwarz
is a 1989 graduate of Cornell,
where he played four years of
varsity tennis. He received his
master's degree from Cortland
State in 1995 and then worked as
an assistant men's and women's
tennis coach at Ithaca College
from 1995-1997.
He
has continued to be an active
player, earning singles and
doubles championship honors in
Tompkins County, New York on five
different occasions. He was also
named the Southern Tier Player of
the Year in 1999. A USTA member,
Schwarz has been the victor of
several men's open tournaments
throughout New York and
Vermont.
